Our Story
Near Miss Records began with a simple belief:
a lot of great music was never fully heard the way it deserves — even if it came close.
Sometimes that’s because of timing.
Sometimes it’s because of circumstance.
Sometimes it’s because the story around the record was never fully told.
We started Near Miss Records to create space for those albums — and for the artists behind them — to be listened to carefully, on their own terms.
Why Vinyl
Vinyl asks something of the listener.
It slows things down. It encourages attention. It treats an album as a complete work rather than a collection of moments.
That makes it the right format for what we do.
Every Near Miss Records release is pressed on vinyl and sold directly to listeners online. We focus on small, intentional runs and thoughtful presentation rather than scale for its own sake.
Still Hits & Can’t Miss
Our releases fall into two ongoing series:
Still Hits focuses on archival albums — records from the past that continue to connect and resonate when given the space and context they deserve.
Can’t Miss highlights new recordings — albums we believe in and want to actively champion right now.
Together, they reflect the full scope of what Near Miss Records releases.
Artist-Led Content
For every release, we work with the artist to provide artist-led content connected to the album. That might take different forms depending on what feels right and what the artist is comfortable with:
Written context and background on the record
Q&A sessions with listeners who purchase the vinyl record
Exclusive video conversations or reflections
Our role is to consult, produce, and support — not to speak over the work. The artist remains in charge of how their story is told.
What Near Miss Means
A “near miss” isn’t a miss at all.
It’s a hit — just one that didn’t land as widely as it could have.
That gap can come from timing.
From visibility.
From the unpredictable way music moves through the world.
Near Miss Records exists for albums that connected deeply, even if they never fully connected broadly — and for new records we believe will.
These aren’t corrections or rescues. They’re recognitions.
If you’re here, you’re probably the kind of listener we had in mind.
